Young people in Llanelli are being urged to sign up for a free training programme which is starting in the local area on 26th February.
LRC Training are now offering unemployed 16 – 25 year olds the chance to get involved with The Prince’s Trust Team Programme. The Team programme is a 12-week Personal Development and Employability programme rolled out over 12 weeks, where participants meet new people and gain new skills.
Over the course of 12 weeks, participants will get the opportunity to take part in:
- An activity-based residential
- A two-week work placement in a sector of their choice.
- A week-long community project of their choice to support the local area.
- Interview and CV building skills workshops to develop employability.
- Confidence building and presentation skills workshops The programme, which is part-funded by The Queen’s Trust, has been running in partnership with LRC Training since 2016 and has seen a number of people progress into education and employment upon completing the programme, including Julie Bean.
- Julie, 18, from Llanelli, was about to finish a college course, and was having a difficult time at home. She didn’t know where to turn next, when a careers advisor suggested that she sign up to Team.
“I couldn’t even make eye contact with other people when I first joined Team, but after a few hours I felt less anxious and started joining in on the activities.”
Julie continues, “One of the best things about Team was our residential – I hadn’t laughed so much in years! Up until Team, my life hadn’t been worth living. The Prince’s Trust and Team, particularly my Team Leader Elena, have been the making of me. It has enabled me to change my life and I find it hard to put into words how I feel; it makes me so happy to see how far I’ve come.”
Julie completed Team surrounded by friends and is now pursuing her passion for helping others.
Wyn Lloyd, Training Manager at LRC said,
“Two years ago The Prince’s Trust Team programme came back to Llanelli. Over 60 young people have already benefitted and hopefully hundreds more will in the years to come. I’ve seen the programme work, it changes lives for the better, and it’s a huge positive for the young people of the town.”
