Simon Thomas AM is looking forward to getting his energy use under control after taking part in a cookery demonstration held by Smart Energy GB to highlight the benefits of smart meters to people across Wales.
Simon Thomas joined fellow AMs in a bid to cook a plate of pancakes using the least amount of electricity. Simonâs culinary efforts cost 1.76p in energy, compared to the average plate of pancakes cooking cost of 2.19p. A smart meter was used to measure the AMâs energy usage, displaying the results in pounds and pence on a digital display.
With more than 8.6 million smart meters already installed across Great Britain, Simon Thomas AM is looking forward to seeing smart meters help people to monitor their energy usage across Mid and West Wales.
Those who have upgraded to a smart meter are already feeling the benefits. Three quarters of people who have a smart meter say they would recommend one to family and friends, with a similar proportion (80 per cent) taking steps to cut down on their energy usage. (August 2017 Smart Energy Outlook.)
After hearing more about the technology from Smart Energy GB, the voice of the smart meter rollout, Simon Thomas AM said:
âWhen Iâm cooking at home, I donât know how much energy Iâm using. Through taking part in this cookery demonstration, not only was I able to get in a bit of flipping practice before Shrove Tuesday, but I was able to see first-hand how smart meters will give us all much more control of what we spend on gas and electricity, and finally put an end to estimated bills.
âI would encourage all my constituents to call their energy supplier today and ask for an appointment to get their own smart meter fitted.â
Smart meters bring everyone in Mid and West Wales and across the rest of Wales and Great Britain accurate bills. They also mean that you can see exactly how much energy you are using in pounds and pence, and in near real time.
Contact your energy supplier today about installing your smart meter.

Simon Thomas AC Yn Dod i Ben â Choginio Ynni Isel
Â
Mae Simon Thomas AC yn edrych ymlaen at fynnu rheolaeth ar ei ddefnydd o ynni ar Ă´l cymryd rhan mewn arddangosiad coginio a gynhaliwyd gan Ynni Clyfar GB i ddangos manteision mesuryddion clyfar i bobl ar draws Cymru.
Ymunodd Simon Thomas â chyd-Aelodau Cynulliad mewn ymgais i goginio bentwr o grempogau gan ddefnyddio cyn lleied o drydan â phosib. Costiodd ymdrechion coginio Simon 1.76c mewn ynni o’i gymharu â chost gyfartalog coginio crempog, sef 2.19c. Defnyddiwyd mesurydd clyfar i fesur defnydd ynni’r Aelod Cynulliad, gan ddangos y canlyniad mewn punnoedd a cheiniogau ar sgrĂŽn ddigidol.
Gydag mwy na 8.6 miliwn o fesuryddion clyfar eisoes wedi’u gosod ledled Prydain Fawr, mae Simon Thomas AM yn edrych ymlaen at weld mesuryddion clyfar yn helpu pobl i fesur eu defnydd o ynni ar draws Canolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru.
Mae’r rhai sydd wedi uwchraddio i fesurydd clyfar eisoes yn gweld y manteision. Mae thri chwarter o bobl sydd â mesurydd clyfar eisoes yn dweud y byddent yn argymell un iâw teulu a ffrindiau, a chyfran debyg (80 y cant) yn cymryd camau i gwtogi ar eu defnydd o ynni. (Awst 2017 Rhagolwg ynni clyfar.)
Ar Ă´l cael gwybod mwy am y dechnoleg gan Ynni Clyfar GB, llais yr ymgyrch cyflwyno mesuryddion clyfar, meddai Simon Thomas AC:
âPan wyf yn coginio gartref, dwi ddim yn gwybod faint o ynni rwy’n ei ddefnyddio. Trwy gymryd rhan yn yr arddangosiad coginio hwn, roeddwn yn gallu cael ychydig o ymarfer fflipio crempogau yn barod at Ddydd Mawrth Ynyd, ac ar ben hynny, gweld o lygad y ffynnon sut y bydd mesuryddion clyfar yn rhoi llawer mwy o reolaeth i ni i gyd ar yr hyn a wariwn ar nwy a thrydan ac, o’r diwedd, dod â biliau wedi’u hamcangyfrif i ben.
Byddwn yn annog fy holl etholwyr i ffonio eu cyflenwr ynni heddiw a gofyn am apwyntiad i gael eu gosodiad mesurydd clyfar.â
Bydd mesuryddion clyfar yn golygu biliau cywir i bawb yn Nghanolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru ac ar draws gweddill Prydain Fawr. Maent yn golygu hefyd y gallwch weld faint yn union o ynni rydych yn ei ddefnyddio mewn punnoedd a cheiniogau, bron mewn amser real.
Cysylltwch â’ch cyflenwr ynni heddiw ynghylch gosod eich mesurydd clyfar.
