Llanelli Half Marathon

RUNNERS young and old, famous and not so famous gathered at Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Park on Sunday to take part in the Llanelli Half Marathon.

The race, organised by Front Runner Events Ltd and part funded by Carmarthenshire County Council’s Event Support Fund, attracted over 2,000 runners from across the UK, Ireland and further afield – the highest number of runners in the event’s history.

Stars of the track and screen took part, including members of the Welsh Commonwealth Games team and actress Eve Myles, currently starring in the Carmarthenshire based drama Keeping Faith who tweeted that it was “brilliant scenery, brilliant people and a personal best”

Race organiser, David Martin Jewell, said: “This was our best event in Carmarthenshire so far.

“With more than £250,000 raised for local and national charities and over 35 per cent of runners travelling from outside Wales and staying overnight here, the event proved a huge success on many levels.

“We’ve had positive feedback from many of the competitors about the event, the course and the area and look forward to the next event in 2019 and many more to come.”

Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, executive board member for culture, sport and tourism said: “We are delighted to have supported the Llanelli Half Marathon.

“The facilities and setting for an event like this are second to none and make for an ideal running venue.

“We would be pleased to continue to work with Front Runner Events to grow it to an event which becomes a key one on the national sporting calendar.”

GWNAETH rhedwyr hen ac ifanc, enwog a chyffredin ymgynnull ym Mharc Arfordirol y Mileniwm Llanelli ddydd Sul, i gymryd rhan yn Hanner Marathon Llanelli.

Denodd y ras, a drefnwyd gan Front Runner Events Ltd a’i hariannu’n rhannol gan Gronfa Cymorth Digwyddiadau Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin, dros 2,000 o redwyr ledled y DU, Iwerddon ac ymhellach i ffwrdd -y nifer fwyaf o redwyr yn hanes y digwyddiad.

Gwnaeth sêr y trac a’r teledu gymryd rhan, gan gynnwys aelodau o dîm Cymru ar gyfer Gemau’r Gymanwlad a’r actores Eve Myles, sy’n rhan o’r ddrama ‘Keeping Faith’ a leolir yn Sir Gaerfyrddin. Roedd yr actores wedi trydar “golygfeydd gwych, pobl wych a fy amser gorau erioed”

Dywedodd trefnydd y ras, David Martin Jewell: “Dyma yw’r digwyddiad gorau i ni gynnal yn Sir Gaerfyrddin hyd yn hyn.

“Gan gofio y cafodd dros £250,000 ei godi ar gyfer elusennau lleol a chenedlaethol, ac roedd dros 35 y cant o’r rhedwyr yn teithio o’r tu allan i Gymru ac yn aros dros nos yma, yn sicr roedd y digwyddiad yn llwyddiant enfawr am nifer o resymau.

“Rydym wedi cael adborth cadarnhaol gan nifer o’r cystadleuwyr ynghylch y digwyddiad, y cwrs a’r ardal ac rydym yn edrych ymlaen at y digwyddiad nesaf yn 2019 ac yn y dyfodol.”

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Peter Hughes Griffiths, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Ddiwylliant, Chwaraeon a Thwristiaeth: “Rydym yn falch iawn ein bod wedi cefnogi Hanner Marathon Llanelli,

“Does dim byd yn debyg i’r cyfleusterau a’r lleoliad ar gyfer digwyddiad tebyg i hyn, ac mae’r ardal yn lleoliad delfrydol ar gyfer rhedeg.

“Hoffem barhau i weithio gyda Front Runner Events i ddatblygu’r digwyddiad yn un allweddol ar galendr y byd chwaraeon cenedlaethol.”
