Adrian Glover (1961-2007)

Friends of the local artist Adrian Glover (1961-2007) have donated four paintings to the Llanelli LGBT Support Group of CETMA, Llanelli.

Adrian Glover was born in 1961 in Dudley and from a young age was seen to be artistic.  His early career was in the fashion industry and he trained at Kingston Art College between 1979 and 1982.  He went on to become a Lecturer for fashion at Lincoln University from about 1999 to 2002.

His passion for painting really started when he moved to Brittany in 2002 and joined a local group called ‘Les Sept’.

Though his French was only of school standard, over the following five years he became completely bilingual, learning the eloquent and poetic expressions in French, rather than just getting by.

The other artists in the group couldn’t keep up with Adrian’s demand for new words to describe his work, and he eventually became a fair spokesperson for them, trying to keep them from bickering amongst them-selves and work together towards interesting Expos.  His hatred of intolerance can be seen in his last two Expos.

In the ‘Rainbow’ collection (from which the four donated works derive), Adrian wanted to show the body beautiful without objectifying it.  His last Expo was a series of paintings in white which was all about intolerance.

When Adrian Glover passed away in 2007, his friends Sarah and Andrew spoke of him as “… a very intelligent man who was able to pass on to others his beliefs in humanity without lecturing them.  His conversation was always interesting as he always had an appetite for learning.”

Sarah said, “I knew Adrian from my early twenties and Andrew met him when we became a couple, six years later.  Adrian was a dear friend who made us laugh so much and of course left us in tears.  We are so lucky to have so many fabulous memories of him.

The Llanelli LGBT Support Group’s Managing Director Jonathan Williams commented;

We are very honoured to been chosen to receive Adrian’s work.”
