The Ladies section of St Pierre Golf Club has chosen Action for Children’s Monmouthshire Children with Disabilities Support Services to be their charity of the year for 2018.

Children, families and staff from the service gathered at the prestigious club on Good Friday for a launch tea party and were presented with 55 donated Easter eggs from ladies playing in an Easter competition that morning to celebrate the occasion.

Ladies Captain, Ann Richards, said: ‘I decided to choose an Action for Children project as I work closely with children as a child protection solicitor and I felt it was important to give something back to our local community. One of our ladies also works for the charity so we’ve put our heads together to see what we can do this year rather than just donate money.

‘These children need experiences and it’s really important to have a few hours out interacting with us rather than just handing over a cheque. So over the year, the children will come to St Pierre for a number of events including using the new golf simulator, putting competitions and the driving range in addition to our standard fundraising golf events and competitions. Children deserve to be loved and cherished and whatever I can do to make their lives better is always a positive thing for me.’

Julie Brown, service coordinator at Monmouthshire Children with Disabilities Support Services, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen to be St Pierre ladies’ section charity of the year for 2018. The club is organising a series of events that will raise money and awareness for this key service in Monmouthshire. It was also wonderful of the club to present our families with Easter eggs and I’m really looking forward to working with Ann throughout the year.’
