Over 1,000 pupils receive crucial road safety training

MORE than 1,000 schoolchildren in Carmarthenshire have been learning about road-side safety in a bid by the local authority to save lives.

In the last year the pupils have been shown how to spot safe places to cross roads and improve their skills to become safer pedestrians during a 12-week training session.

The Kerbcraft training scheme is delivered by Carmarthenshire County Council’s road safety unit, funded by the Welsh Government.

Its aim is to teach children the importance of road-side safety and raising awareness of safely crossing the road.

All children who complete the training programme are presented with certificates by safety mascot Gary GoSafe.

Executive board member for environment, Cllr Hazel Evans, said: “The Kerbcraft pedestrian training scheme is invaluable as it instils the importance of road safety at an early age and ultimately saves lives.”

For further information on the Kerbcraft pedestrian training programme contact pedestrian training co-ordinators Karen John on 01267 228291 or Alex McDowall on 01267 228289.

Mwy na 1,000 o ddisgyblion yn derbyn hyfforddiant hollbwysig ynghylch diogelwch ffyrdd

MAE mwy na 1,000 o blant ysgol yn Sir Gaerfyrddin wedi bod yn dysgu am ddiogelwch wrth ochr y ffordd mewn ymgais gan yr awdurdod lleol i arbed bywydau.

Yn ystod y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, dangoswyd i ddisgyblion sut mae adnabod llefydd diogel i groesi’r ffordd a gwella eu sgiliau er mwyn bod yn fwy diogel wrth gerdded, a hynny’n rhan o sesiwn hyfforddiant 12 wythnos.

Uned diogelwch ffyrdd Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin sy’n darparu cynllun hyfforddiant Kerbcraft, ac mae’n cael ei gyllido gan Lywodraeth Cymru.

Nod y cynllun yw addysgu plant ynghylch pwysigrwydd diogelwch ochr y ffordd a chynyddu ymwybyddiaeth o ddiogelwch wrth groesi’r ffordd.

Mae pob plentyn sy’n cwblhau’r hyfforddiant yn cael tystysgrif gan Gari Gofal, masgot diogelwch ffyrdd y Cyngor.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Hazel Evans, yr aelod o’r bwrdd gweithredol dros yr amgylchedd: “Mae cynllun hyfforddiant Kerbcraft yn hynod bwysig gan ei fod yn dysgu pwysigrwydd diogelwch ffyrdd yn gynnar i blant, ac yn y pen draw, mae’n achub bywydau.”
