Council registers interest in Channel 4 relocation

Neath Port Talbot Council is submitting information to Channel 4 in a bid to attract the company to the area when the broadcaster moves out of London.

The company will be creating three new creative hubs across the regions.

Neath Port Talbot Council is offering Channel 4 the opportunity to develop a site at Port Talbot Harbourside – the town’s former docks quarter which is to be transformed into a knowledge focused business hub, creating many skilled jobs.

The proposed new Channel 4 plot is just five minutes from the M4 J38 (straight into the site) and two minute walk from Port Talbot Railway Station, which has direct access to London Paddington and to all other rail networks across the UK.

The competition is anticipated to be extremely tough as a number of cities have already declared their position. However, relocation at Harbourside would not only be a great business location for the company but would also potentially have a transformative regeneration impact on our communities.

Cllr. Rob Jones, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said: “I’m pleased that we have registered an interest in this potentially prestigious relocation and it exemplifies the council’s ambition for the economy of the county borough.

“I don’t underestimate the very competitive nature of these inward investment projects. But Neath Port Talbot has much to offer as a business location as well as being steeped in the cultural and creative sectors. Along with a long list of world known actors, this area has also attracted many major film and TV productions.”

Rhagwelir y bydd y gystadleuaeth yn hynod galed wrth gan fod nifer o ddinasoedd eisoes wedi datgan eu diddordeb. Fodd bynnag, byddai ad-leoli i Lannau’r Harbwr yn lleoliad busnes gwych i’r cwmni, yn ogystal â chael effaith adfywio drawsnewidiol ar ein cymunedau o bosib.

Meddai’r Cyng. Rob Jones, Arweinydd Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot, “Rwy’n falch ein bod wedi mynegi diddordeb yn yr adleoliad hwn a all fod o bwys mawr. Mae’n arddangos uchelgais y cyngor ar gyfer economi’r fwrdeistref sirol.

“Rwy’n gwerthfawrogi natur gystadleuol iawn y prosiectau mewnfuddsoddi hyn. Ond mae gan Gastell-nedd Port Talbot gryn dipyn i’w gynnig fel lleoliad busnes yn ogystal â thraddodiad yn y sectorau diwylliannol a chreadigol. Ynghyd â rhestr hir o actorion byd-enwog, mae’r ardal hon wedi denu llawer o gynyrchiadau ffilm a theledu sylweddol.”
