New charging points to meet demand

More charging points have been installed in Carmarthenshire for electric cars.

Mart Car Park in Newcastle Emlyn and St Peter’s Car park Carmarthen are two of the latest locations to benefit from electric vehicle charging points. The 7kW chargers will charge a compatible electric vehicle in 3-5 hours.

The unit at Nant y Ci Park & Ride site has also been replaced with a new rapid charge facility which will charge an electric vehicle to 80% in 30 minutes.

Carmarthenshire County Council secured funding for the plug-in chargers through the Welsh Government’s LEADER programme following an increase in electric vehicle sales

By the end of the year it is estimated that around 200,000 vehicles on UK roads will be electric.

The council’s executive board member for communities, Cllr Hazel Evans said: “These fast chargers will enhance our current provision in Carmarthenshire and offer motorists a more accessible service. We will be looking at installing more of these points across the county to meet the growing demand for electric and plug-in hybrid cars.”

The top three selling electric and plug-in hybrid cars in 2017 were the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, BMW 3 Series 330e and the Nissan Leaf, according to electric-vehicle information provider Go Ultra Low.

Mae rhagor o bwyntiau gwefru wedi cael eu gosod yn Sir Gaerfyrddin ar gyfer gyrwyr ceir trydan.

Maes Parcio’r Mart yng Nghastellnewydd Emlyn a maes parcio San Pedr yng Nghaerfyrddin yw dau o’r lleoliadau diweddaraf i elwa ar bwyntiau gwefru cerbydau trydan.  Bydd y pwyntiau gwefru 7kW yn gwefru cerbyd trydan cydnaws mewn 3-5 awr.

Mae cyfleuster gwefru cyflym newydd hefyd wedi cael ei osod yn lle’r uned ar safle Parcio a Theithio Nant-y-Ci, a fydd yn gwefru cerbyd trydan hyd at 80% mewn 30 munud.

Sicrhaodd Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin y cyllid ar gyfer y gwefrwyr trwy raglen LEADER Llywodraeth Cymru yn dilyn cynnydd mewn gwerthiannau cerbydau trydan.

Erbyn diwedd y flwyddyn amcangyfrifir y bydd tua 200,000 o’r cerbydau ar ffyrdd y DU yn rhai trydan.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Hazel Evans, yr Aelod o Fwrdd Gweithredol y Cyngor dros Gymunedau: “Bydd y gwefrwyr cyflym hyn yn gwella ein darpariaeth bresennol yn Sir Gaerfyrddin ac yn cynnig gwasanaeth mwy hygyrch i fodurwyr. Byddwn yn ystyried y posibilrwydd o osod mwy o’r pwyntiau hyn ledled y Sir er mwyn ateb y galw cynyddol am geir trydan a cheir hybrid.”

Y tri math o geir trydan a cheir hybrid a oedd yn gwerthu orau yn 2017 oedd Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, BMW 3 Series 330e a Nissan Leaf, yn ôl y darparwr gwybodaeth am gerbydau trydan Go Ultra Low.
