Dear Editor

I want to thank everyone in Wales who united with us during Dementia Action Week (21 – 27 May) to help the 45,000 people with the condition in Wales.

Local highlights included a week of dementia-friendly Cardiff events, a Voices United Against Dementia ‘flashmob’ in Gwent, Libraries from North to South held drop-in sessions for the public and Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Community Roadshow visited Barry Island over the bank holiday, on hand to take questions about dementia from holiday makers.

There is still much work to do. During the week new Alzheimer’s Society research revealed that

Over half (56%) of people in Wales say dementia is their greatest concern for old age. We know that too many people face the condition alone, without adequate support.

If you missed out during the week, it’s not too late to take action on dementia in Wales. Visit alzheimers.org.uk to find out about the information and support we provide, and how you can get involved and make a difference.

Sue Phelps MBE, Country Director for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru
