As negotiations for leaving the European Union become more and more shambolic, Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats are stepping up the campaign for the British people to have a vote on the terms for leaving the European Union once we know what these terms are.

Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats will be running street stalls throughout the county during the next few months to discuss with the people of Pembrokeshire why we think voters should have a final say through a referendum. The first of these street stalls will take place between 10 am and 3 pm on Saturday, 16 June at Town Moor Car Park, Narberth.

Alistair Cameron, last year’s Welsh Lib Dem Candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, said:

“There are many benefits of EU membership. It is the best guarantee of peace and of not repeating the mistakes of the 20th century in the 21st century. It puts us on the inside of the European fight against crime, terrorism and instability.

“We benefit through membership of a single market of 500 million EU customers who we can trade with. It is Welsh farming’s biggest export market, supporting the backbone of rural Wales.”

Andrew Lye, Chair of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire Lib Dems, added

“In 2015 the Pembrokeshire economy benefitedby £35 million through EU membership according to the London School of Economics.  European money has helped pay for our roads such as the A477 by-pass for Red Roses and Llanddowror and our ferries in Fishguard and Pembroke Dock benefit from the free trade with Ireland.

“Our health service relies on the recruitment of doctors and other clinical staff from elsewhere in the EU. Our universities rely on European co-operation. Many of our beaches have reached the high European Blue Flag standards which encourage tourism.

“For these reasons and many others, Welsh Liberal Democrats believe the British people should have the final say on leaving the European Union once we know our departure termsand this is why we are going to be out engaging with the people of Pembrokeshire.”
