Youth honoured for more than 500 hours volunteering

A YOUNG person from Garnant has become the first in the county to be honoured for volunteering more than 500 hours.

Brittany Alsop-Bingham, aged 20, was presented with the first Carmarthenshire’s 500 hour Youth Volunteering Certificate.

The award was launched at the Carmarthenshire Youth Council (CYC) 2018 Annual General Meeting.

The certificate recognises Brittany’s commitment to share the most precious of resources – her time – to make a difference in the county and her great generosity has had a profound and lasting impact on children and young people in Carmarthenshire.

Brittany has volunteered her time with Carmarthenshire Youth Council, she has been chairperson for the past three years and has lead on the planning of the Youth Conference and other events.

CYC chairperson Brittany Alsop-Bingham said: “I feel very honoured to be awarded with Carmarthenshire’s 500 hours Certificate. I feel I have gained a number of skills volunteering with Carmarthenshire Youth Council and my role as chair has increased my confidence with public speaking and my communication skills. I would encourage everyone to volunteer.”

Executive board member for education and children’s services, Cllr Glynog Davies, said: “Brittany has shown great dedication in giving up more than 500 hours of her time to help out with Carmarthenshire Youth Council. This award is just a token of our appreciation for her time and I would like to thank her for this, although I’m sure that during her volunteering Brittany has learnt and gained a lot from her experiences.”

PERSON ifanc o’r Garnant yw’r cyntaf yn y sir i gael ei hanrhydeddu am wirfoddoli am fwy na 500 awr.

Rhoddwyd Tystysgrif Gwirfoddoli Ieuenctid 500 awr Sir Gaerfyrddin am y tro cyntaf i Brittany Alsop-Bingham, sy’n 20 oed.

Lansiwyd y wobr yng Nghyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol Cyngor Ieuenctid Sir Gaerfyrddin 2018.

Mae’r dystysgrif yn cydnabod ymrwymiad Brittany i rannu ei hadnodd mwyaf gwerthfawr – ei hamser – i wneud gwahaniaeth yn y sir, ac mae ei haelioni wedi cael effaith wirioneddol a pharhaol ar blant a phobl ifanc yn Sir Gaerfyrddin.

Mae Brittany wedi rhoi ei hamser i wirfoddoli gyda Chyngor Ieuenctid Sir Gaerfyrddin, mae hi wedi bod yn gadeirydd dros y tair blynedd diwethaf ac arwain y gwaith o gynllunio’r Gynhadledd Ieuenctid a digwyddiadau eraill.

Dywedodd Brittany Alsop-Bingham, cadeirydd Cyngor Ieuenctid Sir Gaerfyrddin: “Anrhydedd o’r mwyaf yw cael derbyn Tystysgrif 500 awr Sir Gaerfyrddin. Rwy’n teimlo fy mod wedi ennill nifer o sgiliau wrth wirfoddoli gyda Chyngor Ieuenctid Sir Gaerfyrddin, ac mae fy rôl fel Cadeirydd wedi cynyddu fy hyder wrth siarad yn gyhoeddus, ac wedi gwella fy sgiliau cyfathrebu. Byddwn i’n annog unrhyw un i wirfoddoli.”

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Glynog Davies, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Addysg a Gwasanaethau Plant: “Mae Brittany wedi dangos ymrwymiad mawr gan roi mwy na 500 awr o’i hamser i gynorthwyo gyda Chyngor Ieuenctid Sir Gaerfyrddin. Mae’r wobr hon yn dangos ein gwerthfawrogiad am ei hamser a hoffwn ddiolch iddi am hyn, er fy mod i’n siŵr bod Brittany wedi dysgu ac ennill llawer o’i phrofiadau yn ystod ei chyfnod o wirfoddoli.”
