Neath Port Talbot Council is to launch a Members’ Community Fund whichwill see up to £640,000 over the next two years invested into local projects and initiatives across each of the County Borough’s 42 wards.

Cllr. Anthony Taylor, Cabinet Member for Transformation and Deputy Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said:

“The Members’ Community Fund is intended to support smaller, grassroots initiatives that address local needs and contribute towards creating vibrant and sustainable communities. Each Elected Member will be able to bid for funding to invest in projects that support the delivery of the Council’s policies and priorities within their own ward.

“By supportingindividual communities in this way, I hope that we will see positive outcomes acrossthe county borough as a whole and help deliver our vision of a Neath Port Talbot where people want to live, learn and work and bring up their family.”

To access the fund, each Councillor can bid for between £500 and a maximum of£10,000 for any one or a combination of projects in their ward. Decisions on bids will be made by Cabinet after the proposals have been scrutinised to ensure that they are credible, practical, feasible, accurately costed and sustainable. Successful bidsshould not ordinarily create ongoing operational costs for the Council.

Securing other funding streams will bean important aspect of the scheme and council officers will provide advice on sourcing match funding, project management, procurement, site investigation works and other elements to ensure the success of funded projects.

The Fund is available only in 2018/19, but money that remains unspent can be rolled over until 2019/2020 – the Fund will close on 31st March 2020.
