THE capacity of Gorslas Primary School will increase by more than 25 per cent to meet the demand for school places and Welsh language education in the area.
Carmarthenshire County Council is building a new school in the Gorslas community to replace the aging 1920s building pupils and staff currently occupy.
Now, following a decision at today’s full council (June 13, 2018), the new building will cater for 210 pupils instead of 110 the school currently provides for, including 30 additional nursery spaces.
A statutory public consultation on proposals to increase the school’s capacity was also supportive.
Cllr Glynog Davies, executive board member for education, said: “It’s a pleasure to be moving this forward.”
The new school is expected to open its doors in September 2019 as part of the council’s Modernising Education Programme and Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools initiative.
Over £200million has already been invested in new and upgraded schools across Carmarthenshire, with an additional £86.7million of funding recently announced.

Cant o lefydd newydd ar gyfer Ysgol Gors-las
BYDD cynnydd o fwy na 25% yn cael ei wneud i gapasiti Ysgol Gynradd Gors-las er mwyn bodloni’r galw am lefydd ysgol ac addysg Gymraeg yn yr ardal.
Mae Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin yn mynd i adeiladu ysgol newydd yng nghymuned Gors-las yn lle’r hen adeilad sy’n dyddio’n ôl i’r 1920au y mae’r disgyblion a’r staff yn ei ddefnyddio ar hyn o bryd.
Bellach, yn dilyn penderfyniad a wnaed yn y Cyngor Llawn heddiw (13 Mehefin, 2018), bydd yr adeilad newydd yn darparu ar gyfer 210 o ddisgyblion yn lle 110 fel yn yr ysgol bresennol gan gynnwys 30 lle meithrin ychwanegol.
Yn ogystal, roedd yr ymgynghoriad cyhoeddus statudol ynghylch y cynigion i gynyddu capasiti’r ysgol yn cefnogi hyn.
Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Glynog Davies, yr Aelod o’r Bwrdd Gweithredol dros Addysg: “Mae’n bleser cael symud hwn yn ei flaen.”
Disgwylir i’r ysgol newydd agor ei drysau ym mis Medi 2019 fel rhan o Raglen Moderneiddio Addysg y Cyngor a Menter Ysgolion yr 21ain Ganrif Llywodraeth Cymru.
Eisoes, mae dros £200 miliwn wedi cael ei fuddsoddi mewn ysgolion newydd a gwell ledled Sir Gaerfyrddin ac yn ddiweddar, cyhoeddwyd y bydd £86.7 miliwn ychwanegol ar gael.
