BMX PERFORMANCE AWARDED TO FOUR CEREDIGION SCHOOLS

* Yinka Thomas will perform four BMX displays in Ceredigion schools on FRIDAY 15TH JUNE:

* Ysgol Gymunedol Rhydypennau at 9.15am

* Ysgol Penrhyncoch at 11am

* Ysgol T Llew Jones at 1.15pm

* Ysgol Aberteifi at 2.30pm [featuring a trick workshop]

Four Ceredigion schools have been awarded with a BMX display from Yinka Thomas, a highly acclaimed BMX Artist along with support from world record holder Matti Hemmings for their impressive effort and success in this year’s Big Pedal challenge.  The UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scootering challenge inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school.  On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of cycling or scootering journeys.

The prize event is generously funded by Ceredigion County Council and will wow pupils with performances to celebrate their success.

Ceredigion performed exceptionally well in this year’s Big Pedal and the Council is offering this prize to congratulate the schools and their families for their participation and efforts.

Pupils in Ceredigion are being supported to cycle, scoot and walk to school thanks to Sustrans’ Active Journeys programme [1] which helps schools to increase the number of pupils travelling actively to school through a range of in-school activities and events.

Sustrans School Officer, Sioned Lewis said:

‘It’s really exciting to see how enthusiastic the pupils, families and school staff in Ceredigion are to get more children and young people cycling, walking and scooting to school.  I’m thrilled that the schools did so well in the Big Pedal and it’s great that Ceredigion County Council have funded this event as a celebration for all of their efforts.’
