Labour’s Marc Tierney selected to fight key seat

MARC TIERNEY IS LABOUR’S TOP CHOICE FOR KEY SEAT

 38-year-old local dad Marc Tierney has been reselected by local Labour Party members to challenge the Conservatives for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire at the next General Election.

Party members gathered in Kilgetty last week for a hustings and final vote that saw Marc Tierney receive 82% of the vote, impressing members from Carmarthen to Pembroke Dock with his experience and commitment to campaigning for hope, fairness and prosperity for everyone.

Mr Tierney stood against the current Conservative MP Simon Hart in last year’s snap General Election, securing 16,661 votes for Labour – the highest number of votes cast for the Party since 1997 when the seat was held by former Labour MP Nick Ainger.

Speaking following his re-selection, Marc said:

“I am delighted to be selected as the Welsh Labour Candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire.  We desperately need a Labour Government in Westminster to work with our Welsh Labour Government in Cardiff Bay to stand up for the people of Wales, and I will work every day to make that happen.

“The Tories have presided over eight years of failure, which has left working people worse off and seen Welsh budgets cut to such an extent that our public services are under serious threat.  Their shambolic approach to Brexit is putting Welsh jobs at risk, and threatening our economy especially here in our rural, coastal constituency. “Welsh Labour is in permanent campaign mode, ready to fight the next General Election whenever it comes.  In 2017, we slashed Simon Hart’s majority with a grassroots campaign and a fully costed manifesto of bright ideas for our future.  I’m looking forward to getting out in the constituency again in the coming weeks and months, speaking to the voters of Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire about what really matters to them”. Marc will be campaigning on Labour’s fully costed manifesto which will give the NHS over £30 billion of extra investment over the next Parliament, with a further £8 billion to tackle the crisis in social care.  Marc will put the security of our local area first, with additional resources for our Police and Border forces and Labour will stand by its commitment to introduce a Real Living Wage of £10 an hour, protecting workers by guaranteeing no tax rises for 95 per cent of earners.
