Lib Dems meet people in Narberth

As part of the campaign to give the British public a vote on the terms for leaving the European Union, Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats held a successful street stall at the entrance to Town Moor Car Park, Narberth on Saturday, June 16.

In spite of the damp weather, many people stopped to visit the stall and held lively discussions over the future of our country and its relationship with the European Union.  Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats also gave out leaflets provided by Wales for Europe / CymrudrosEwrop, which is not affiliated to any political party but campaigns for a good relationship between Wales and the EU.

Alistair Cameron, last year’s Welsh Lib Dem General Election Candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire said:

“Once the British Government have negotiated the final terms for leaving the EU then the British people should have the final say in a referendum over whether we still want to leave.

I believe we gain hugely from our close links with our European neighbours in terms of security and trade and that much of this through our membership of the European Union.

We benefit through membership of a single market of 500 million EU customers who we can trade with. It is Welsh farming’s biggest export market, supporting the backbone of rural Wales.”

Andrew Lye, Chair of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats added:

“Pembrokeshire and Wales have gained greatly through EU membership. You can see this in our roads such as the A477 by pass for Red Roses and Llanddowror. Continued EU membership could help finance future projects such as improving the A40 between Haverfordwest and St Clears and our rail service.

EU membership is vital for our Fishguard and Pembroke ferries which rely on free trade with Ireland.  It is also vital for our health service relies on being able to recruit doctors and other clinical staff from the rest of the EU. We cannot afford to damage this recruitment at this time.”

Pembrokeshire Lib Dems will be holding another street stall at the entrance to the Town Moor Car Park in Narberth on Saturday, 30^th June between 10 am and 1 pm. Further streets stalls will be held throughout Pembrokeshire during the Summer.

Alistair added: “We are looking forward to having further discussions with people in Pembrokeshire  as we make our case for why the British people should have the final say over whether we accept the terms for leaving the EU.”
