GREENS: INVESTING IN NUCLEAR FACILITY “COMPLETELY THE WRONG DIRECTION FOR WALES”

Green Party Deputy leader Amelia Womack has reacted to the news that the Government have signed off on facility to support the design of advanced nuclear technologies in North Wales [1], days after refusing to fund the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon. [2]

Womack said:

“This plan takes us one step closer to sign off on the nuclear plant on Anglesey, which would be a terrible move on the part of the Government.

Not only do the local community still not know what the evacuation plan is for the planned plant, we don’t know how they’re going to dispose on the nuclear waste.

“Rather than trying to innovate the way in which we use nuclear energy, the Government should reverse its decision not to fund the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon. That project would have sparked a real shift in the way we look at clean energy, rather than trying to get more wear out of the energy of the past. This is the wrong direction for our country.”
