British Army launching recruitment roadshow around Wales

BRITISH ARMY LAUNCHES SUMMER RECRUITMENT ROADSHOW TRAVELLING THE LENGTH AND BREADTH OF WALES

 

* British Army Recruitment to attend 14 events over two months across Wales to provide people with the chance to speak to local soldiers about their life and career in the Army

 

This Saturday, the British Army kicks off its three-month (2nd June to 31st August), recruitment roadshow across Wales – the first event of its kind for the Army in Wales. Welsh soldiers and Officers from the Royal Welsh, Welsh Guards and the Queen’s Dragoon Guards will be at these events, visiting towns across the country to showcase the diverse range of careers available in the British Army.

 

Army equipment will be on display at some of the 14 events taking place across the country and visitors to the stands will be able to try their hand at activities, such as team building exercises.

 

The roadshow will showcase what life is like in the British Army and highlight the breadth of opportunities that come with a role in the organisation such as travelling, training, sport, adventure, personal achievement, all whilst offering the chance to represent your country.

 

CAPTAIN LUKE CRITCHLOW, RECRUITING OPERATIONS OFFICER: “There is such a huge breadth of roles available in the British Army and this Welsh Army Recruitment roadshow is a great opportunity to show people the opportunities that come with an Army career. Soldiers will be attending the events across Wales to answer any questions people have about Army careers or what life is like in the Army.”

 

The British Army supports people in achieving their personal and professional goals, whether it’s conquering a pull up or taking on a leadership role. The Army is recruiting and there is a breadth of roles and opportunities available in both the Regular Army and Army Reserve, from helicopter pilot to nurse, from engineer to IT specialist. You can go sky diving or skiing abroad as part of Adventurous Training and gain further qualifications such as an apprenticeship or a degree. As part of life in the British Army, lifelong friendship bonds are formed and incredible challenges are overcome to achieve worthwhile results, for example saving lives by providing assistance on humanitarian or peacekeeping missions at home or abroad.

 

TROOPER KNUCKEY, JACKEL DRIVER IN THE QUEEN’S DRAGOON GUARDS, FROM SWANSEA, SAID: “I joined the Army because I wanted a different lifestyle and career to my friends in civilian jobs. I have had the opportunity to travel the world and take part in various exercises including force protection in Kenya, counter poaching in Malawi and alpine skiing in Switzerland. The Army has made me challenge myself by taking part in different exercises and sports around the world. I look forward to the next skill I will learn and the destination I go to next.”

 

The British Army will be attending numerous events and towns across Wales during the two-month roadshow.

* 3rd- 21st- North Wales Recruiting Surge

* 3rd- 4th – Aberystwyth, town centre event

* 5th, 7th, 20th and 21st- Llandudno North Western Gardens, town centre event

* 8th, 11th and 12th- Wrexham, town centre event

* 13th- 14th- Rhyl Town Centre

* 15th- Conwy Park Run

* 23rd-26th- Royal Show RWAS Showground

* 30th- Cardiff City Centre

* 30th- 31st August- South Wales Recruiting Surge

 

AUGUST

 

* 1st August- St Catherine’s Walk Square, Carmarthen

* 3rd, 17th and 31st- Castle Square, Haverfordwest town centre

* 8th- Vale of Glamorgan Show

* 10th August- The Kingsway Newport, town centre

* 14th- 16th- Pembrokeshire Show

 

DID YOU KNOW, WITH A CAREER IN THE ARMY:

 

* You receive an annual salary of £31,232 after training plus pension as an Officer (available to those after completing their A Levels as Direct Entry or as a graduate) and £18,488 after training plus pension as a Soldier.

* You receive 30 days annual holiday on top of all the usual bank holidays, and extra time off in lieu of operations.

 

* You have opportunities to travel overseas for operations, adventurous training, sport and peacekeeping from training in Kenya to supporting the UN in Cyprus or from sky-diving in Florida to mountaineering in the Himalayas.

* You gain skills and qualifications that are transferable to life after the Army.

* Any medical procedures or dental work that you require is paid for by the Army and is carried out by fully qualified Army personnel or private practices where necessary.

 

* You have a clear promotion structure to follow. Each successive rank brings extra responsibilities, duties and respect, and an increase in pay.

 

* As a Soldier you will be

 

* trained as an apprentice with a choice of 40 different schemes, from engineering to animal care.

* offered over 500 different qualifications, from GCSE to degrees, including all kinds of professional and practical qualifications in areas such as chartered engineering and accountancy that will build up your CV.
