Wales says ‘no’ to Trump
On the eve of Donald Trump’s visit to the UK, WEN Wales mentees are holding a vigil to protest against Trump’s damaging rhetoric and politics.
The event is taking place at:
Steps of the Senedd
Cardiff Bay CF10 4PZ
Thursday, 12 July 2018
18.15-19.00
#StopTrump
With inspiring speakers from all walks of life including Catherine Fookes, Director of WEN Wales; UzoIwobiOBE, Race Council Cymru;Cerys Furlong, Chief Executive of ChwaraeTeg; Hilary Roberts, member of SEEdS group for survivors of violence against women; and Eluned Morgan AM, sponsor of the event.
In light of the Trump administration using sexual harassment as a punch line, separating children and families, and publicising derogatory views on women, it has never been more pertinent to highlight the oppression and reduction of women’s and children’s rights. The event is open to everyone and we invite as any people as possible to attend and stand together in protest.

Catherine Fookes, Director of WEN Wales said:
‘We are reallypleasedthat our mentees have taken the initiative and organised this event to show that Wales is against the casual racism and sexism of Trump. On the eve of hisvisit it is important to protest against his damaging policies such as separating families that have had such a negative impact on women and children. We are proud to be part of the carnival of resistance that is taking place across the UK’.
Eluned Morgan AM added…
“Across Wales people have been telling me that they are concerned about the visit of the American President to the UK. This event in Cardiff will bring people from all backgrounds to one place, to stand together for equality and fairness. We will be sending a strong, but peaceful message that we disagree with the politics of hate and of division and that the people of Wales are united in a future that puts human interest before the needs of big business and the environment before greed. “
