Cwmamman United Get New Stand-The Paul’s Pledge Stand

The game itself was always going to be secondary to the message being delivered from the naming of Cwmamman United’s New Stand which from this day on will be known as ‘The Paul’s Pledge Stand’. It stands proudly in Grenig Park and represents a warning to people of the possible consequences of an excessive of alcohol. Paul Pugh was a Cwmamman United player and captain who was viciously attacked on a night out over 10 years ago, it was a night that changed his and his family’s life forever. The stand means a lot to them.

The game itself between ex Swans stars and Cwm was lit up with the mercurial skills of Lee Trundle who set the tone early on with a spectacular lobbed shot from 50 plus yards which caught home goalkeeper Chris Curtis well off his line to nestle the ball into the back of the net much to the delight of everyone in attendance.

Trundle’s skills were as always a pleasure to witness and he added a further three goals to his individual tally. The game ebbed and flowed with plenty of action to keep the spectators entertained. With posts and crossbars being rattled at both ends! Even Cwm’s manager Eirian Rees joined in the fun by hammering a volley against the visitors crossbar.

Cwmamman United’s Ryan Hurlow was showing a clean pair of heels to his markers and reaped his reward with a well taken goal. Goals were being exchanged at both ends and at 2-2 it wasn’t until the second half that the visitors started to pull away from the home side with Ryan Hurlow swapping over to the visitors team and linking up with his ex team mate and livewire Kyle Copp. With the experienced Lee Trundle this indeed made for a formidable visitors attack and the score line soon rattled along to 6-2.

Substitutions were frequently made by both sides and eventually Cwmamman managed to reduce the score line to 6-4 when Cwm’s Ryan Thomas thundered home a free kick from just outside the penalty box.

A thoroughly entertaining game enjoyed by all who witnessed. It was Paul Pugh’s day!
