Man Drove Intoxicated After Argument With Girlfriend
A local man appeared at Llanelli Law Courts today (July 19) accused of driving his Fiat Punto at Bryngwili Road Cross Hands while above the legal alcohol limit. The alleged offence took place on July 1 of this year.
Iolo Prys Dafydd, age 22 of Pen-Y-Fai Lane Llanelli pleaded guilty before District Judge Christopher James.
Prosecuting Sian Vaughan told the court that Dafydd had been stopped in Gorslas by a stationary police officer who was on patrol in the area. He had sped past the officer in his Fiat Punto and was stopped where a breath test proved positive for alcohol. He was subsequently arrested and a lower reading taken at the police station showed at 67mcg within 100ml of breath. Dafydd had been of previous clean character until today the court heard.
Steve Lloyd in mitigation said that his client had travelled from Llandeilo on the day in question and had foolishly left there after an argument with his partner. He added that his client had been driving for the last five years.
District Judge Christopher James said: “This was a high reading of alcohol and you were twice the legal limit. The aggravating factors are the distance driven and at high speed. You put yourself and other road users at risk, however I’ve taken your early guilty plea into consideration.”
Dafydd was disqualified from driving for a total of 17 months. He must pay a £175 fine, £85 in court costs and a £30 victim surcharge. The IAMS Drink Drive Rehabilitation Course was offered.
