Woman Kicks Off In Police Station Car Park

A Swansea woman who was drunk and disorderly in Carmarthen Police Station’s Car Park and used repeated expletives to officers appeared at Llanelli Law Courts today (July 26).

Hannah Margaret Jones, age 22 of Coynant Farm House Felindre pleaded guilty to the offence of drunk and disorderly in a public place. The incident took place on July 8 of this year.

Lisa Jones prosecuting told the court that at just before 6am on the date in question, Jones was located in the car park area of Carmarthen Police Station and was extremely intoxicated. A member of the general public had driven the defendant to the location as he was concerned for her safety.

Police officers spoke with Jones and advised her to go home. She was abusive and called them c***s. Officers advised her on the choice of language but the expletives were persistently repeated. After several warnings Jones was subsequently arrested. There are two convictions for two offences on record. June 14 of last year a conditional discharge was imposed for a similar offence.

Andrew Isaac representing stated that his client had entered an early guilty plea and was apologetic for her actions. He added that she was aghast at the language used and had been on an evening out drinking in Carmarthen. Jones had chosen to drink on an empty stomach and a male member of the public had driven her to the police station as she couldn’t recall her home address. Jones stated to her solicitor that she felt one police officer was helping her while the other was belittling her. She was remorseful and said that she didn’t have an issue with alcohol.

Chair of the magistrates bench Wynford Davies said:
“You’ve used appalling language and you were lucky it was just officers present and nobody else, they would have been mortified with you. This isn’t the first time that you’ve got in trouble with regards to drink. You need to disassociate yourself with alcohol clearly and stay on the soft drinks. A conditional discharge hasn’t worked with regards to punishment the last time.”

Jones was fined £60, she must pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
