We have also created an interactive map giving users the chance to explore the differences in credit scores between each postcode (Embargoed 00.01 Monday 30th July).

 

A credit score shows one’s creditworthiness — that is, how willing banks and other lenders are to let you borrow money. As a rule, the higher your credit score, the more likely you are to be accepted for credit.

TotallyMoney also commissioned a survey with YouGov which uncovered the following:

  • 41% incorrectly believe that where they live impacts their credit score
  • 63% weren’t aware that electoral role details ore included in their credit report. Being on the electoral register helps lenders confirm you are who you say you are, and that you have a fixed, verifiable address.
  • 52% weren’t aware that shared financial commitments are stored on one’s credit report. If you have taken out joint credit with someone, such as a mortgage or a loan, your credit ratings could affect each other’s.
