PROUD AND TRUE
(For Cwmamman United. F.C)
There is a simple story, told both proud and true,
On a field of fresh cut grass, passion bleeds through blue.
Beside the ancient Amman, where coal was once king,
A new beginning to build and a soaring song to sing.
In good times and bad, a hand held in brotherhood,
The valley’s glory remembered, the pride well understood.
Under summer skies and winter’s rust raw rain,
Celtic hearts beat ever faster, for victories golden gain.
From the anthracite face, into the blinding of the light,
Boot leather scuffed and muddy, sweat in innocent delight.
A rising from the rich earth, so softly shed our sorrow,
History in a painted vision, of this time we only borrow.
Six decades behind and the ever changing seasons,
Celebrated by this village, under rolling skies for reasons.
Still the river Amman knowing, flowing down the valley floor,
Young Welsh warriors crying, for honour and no more.
On the field of play, some hearts will lie forever broken,
But at the final counting, an eternal truth is spoken.
Cold beer quickly sinking, our spirits gently sighing,
Songs kept long for singing, banners for the flying.
The old wood is reflected, in the sparkling silver waters,
United under Heaven, our sacred sons and daughters.
In honour of the past times and those yet still to come,
A new beginning rising, before a day but yet begun.
