Welsh Liberal Democrats find growing concerns over Brexit at County Show

With Brexit such a major issue for our farming community, the Welsh Liberal Democrats have asked visitors at this year’s Pembrokeshire County Show to give their views about how it is going.

Visitors and passers by at the Welsh Lib Dem stall have been asked their views on Brexit and to plot these on a Brexitometer chart. They have been asked their opinions on 5 statements: “Brexit is going well”; “Brexit is good for Wales”; “Brexit is good for the NHS”; “Brexit is good for jobs”; and “There should be a PEOPLE’S VOTE on the final deal”.

The Brexitometer figures are not a scientific sample of those who visited the county show. They are simply the views of those who chose to take part in the survey. However, it does show a significant body of people are unhappy with the Brexit negotiations and also that many support a People’s Vote.

Alistair Cameron, Welsh Liberal Democrat Candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire at last year’s General Election said:

“We found the Brexitometer a useful way to open up discussions with people about Brexit. We know it is not a scientific poll but it does show that a significant number of people are very unhappy with Brexit and want a People’s Vote.”

Andrew Lye, Chair of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats said:

“We know that many people in the farming community are very concerned about the impact of Brexit. For instance, in 2014, up to 93% of Welsh lamb, 35% of sheep meat, 92% of Welsh beef exports and 98% of dairy exports were exported to EU countries. As the clock ticks and a dangerous crash out of the EU is on the cards, we are determined that the British people should have the final say over Brexit.”
