Welsh League Division One Football

On a grey drizzly afternoon last Saturday (August 18) at Grenig Park it was the home team that stepped up to the plate to claim their first league points of the season with a two nil win.

In stark contrast to last weeks performance, this was a Cwm team that were in a mood of utter determination to make a statement and show that they are most certainly a force to be reckoned with, this is especially on their home patch.

Cwmamman United pressed their opponents and competed well for possession. The midfield were particularly eye catching with Ross Morgan and Ross Jones pulling the strings. Cwm were a solid unit in defence and this was a platform for their clear success.

Cwm had pace on the left and right flanks and with half an hour gone, it was Cwm’s Ryan Hurlow who almost opened the scoring but was denied by the visitors defence. However at forty minutes into the game, Hurlow eventually got his reward by beating a retreating defence and steered the ball into the visitors net.

With minutes to half time it was Cwm’s impressive game management that preserved their lead into the half time break. While the second half saw Goytre United try their hardest to force their way back into the game, unfortunately they were thwarted by some excellent resolute defending.

With some twenty minutes to play Cwm’s Ross Jones received a second yellow card for a somewhat reckless challenge on Goytre United’s Aaron Richards.

Despite the fact that Cwm were down to ten men, they still continued to push forward and it was no surprise when Cwm’s Christian Allen met a perfect cross and he powered his header into the Goytre United net giving the visitors goalkeeper no chance of saving it.

Cwmamman played out the remaining time and kept a very impressive clean sheet.
A very good win for the home team.
