National Botanic is No 1

say readers of Garden News

The National Botanic Garden of Wales have been named the favourite visitor garden in Wales by readers of Garden News magazine.

Throughout the summer, Garden News readers took part in a poll to find the Best 100 Gardens across the whole of the UK, with the National Botanic Garden of Wales scooping more votes than any other garden in Wales.

Garden News editor Simon Caney said: “It’s the first time that gardens throughout the UK have been rated in this way and thousands of people voted.

“We know that our readers love visiting gardens to get inspiration and ideas, and the National Botanic Garden was a clear winner in Wales.”

The Director of the Carmarthenshire attraction, Huw Francis said: “Being recognised as the Best Visitor Garden in Wales by the readers of Garden News is high praise indeed.

“We are greatly honoured that such a discerning audience appreciates the amazing plant collections of the Great Glasshouse, walled gardens, Japanese Garden, and other areas too numerous to mention, and has awarded the National Botanic Garden of Wales this accolade.”

The overall UK winner was Barnsdale Gardens in Rutland, the brainchild of legendary Gardeners’ World presenter Geoff Hamilton.

Trwy gydol haf, wnaeth darllenwyr y Garden News pleidleisio i ddarganfod y 100 Gardd Gorau ar draws y DU i gyd, gyda’r Ardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru yn derbyn y mwyaf o bleidleisiau na unrhyw ardd arall yng Nghymru.

Dywed golygydd y cylchgrawn, Simon Caney: ‘Hwn yw’r tro gyntaf mae gerddi trwy gydol y DU wedi cael ei osod yn y drefn yma gan fod miloedd o bobl wedi pleidleisio.’

Wnaeth Huw Francis, cyfarwyddwr yr atyniad yn Sir Gâr dweud: ‘Mae cael ein cydnabod fel yr Ardd Ymwelwyr Gorau yng Nghymru gan ddarllenwyr Garden News yn ganmoliaeth uchel yn wir.’

‘Rydym yn hynod o anrhydeddus bod cynulleidfa mor wych yn gwerthfawrogi casgliadau planhigion anhygoel y Tŷ Gwydr Mawr, yr Ardd Ddeu-fur, Yr Ardd Siapaneaidd, ac ardaloedd eraill yn rhy niferus i’w sôn, ac mae wedi dyfarnu’r wobr hon i Ardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru.’

Enillydd cyffredinol y DU oedd Gerddi Barnsdale yn Rutland, syniad a chrëwyd gan y garddwr Geoff Hamilton o Gardeners World.
