For almost 94 minutes this evening (August 24) it looked as if the Reds would achieve their second Welsh Premier League win and put their opening day heavy defeat well and truly behind them.
Llanelli Manager Andy Hill saw his team get off to the perfect start in front of the Sgorio cameras when Reds Joe Clarke played a great defence splitting pass to team mate James Loveridge who latched onto the opportunity and beat the advancing Barry goalkeeper Mike Lewis to steer the ball into the net.

Barry Town backed by their vociferous support in the main stand got off to a slow start but slowly asserted themselves on the game with their strikers Mamodou Touray and Kayne Mclaggon twisting and turning the Reds defence. For the last twenty minutes of the first half it was Barry Town who squandered at least four good goal scoring opportunities and even the most ardent Reds supporters found it hard to believe that the visitors had not restored parity going into the half time break.
Half Time – Llanelli Town 1
Barry Town 0
The second half saw Barry Town continue to press the Llanelli defence and a rasping shot hit the foot of the Reds goal post. Barry Town supporters must have thought that this wasn’t going to be their night.
Barry Manager Gavin Chesterfield must have been totally frustrated when his side were reduced to ten men with time running out.
The Reds were dogged in their approach and could sense the victory was within their sights.
Deep into added time in this game , the 95th minute to be precise, it was Barry Town’s Kayne Mclaggon who snatched the game from the jaws of defeat by scoring from close range and gain his team a valuable away point.
It was the Reds who were left a little deflated after the game having put so much effort into their performance that it almost felt like a defeat in the end.
For Barry Town it was a point rescued but if they had taken their guilt edged chances then the scoreline could have been a lot different.
Reds goal was 1 minute 59 seconds into the game!
All in all a very entertaining game played on what turned out to be a very chilly evening. Both sides will contemplate on what might have been.
Final Score
