The 2017/18 season has been another productive year for Welsh football and a particularly exciting time for Women’s football in Wales.
2018 marks 100 years of women’s suffrage and with the growth of the female game continuing year on year, this year’s End of Season review focuses and celebrates this aspect of our sport. To commemorate this the imagery chosen is exclusively of women and girls in football, as well as profile interviews featured throughout with Jayne Ludlow, Women’s Senior Team Manager, Laura McAllister CBE, Cheryl Foster, FIFA accredited Referee, and other key female figures that have and continue to have an impact on the welsh game.
Our Senior Team is currently on the verge of making Welsh sporting history by qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Domestically, our Welsh Premier Women’s League is more competitive than ever, with 10 teams participating regularly at the highest level. At grassroots level, over a third of 3-11-year-old girls in Wales now participate in football and we have almost 5,000 registered youth players. We are also seeing more women take up all-important coaching and refereeing roles.
The 2018 end of season review also highlights the main developments that have taken place across all other aspects of the FAW’s work from grassroots to elite level as The FAW aim to provide an overview of what has been achieved for Welsh football this past year.
