More major sporting events on the horizon for Carmarthenshire

CARMARTHENSHIRE has sealed its reputation as a world-class host of major sporting events following its welcome of the Tour of Britain.

Stage One of the UK’s biggest road race took place in the county today (Sunday, September 2, 2018) bringing 120 of the world’s top cyclists and thousands of spectators out on to the streets.

Cycling stars including Tour de France winners Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome were amongst those to star in the race, which started from Pembrey Country Park and travelled north through the county to Llandovery before continuing on the stage finish in Newport.

It is the first time the Tour of Britain has visited Carmarthenshire, and has been the biggest sporting event ever hosted by Carmarthenshire County Council.

With live televised coverage throughout the day, it was a major opportunity to showcase Carmarthenshire’s landscape and facilities which are perfect for a range of sporting events with its special blend of countryside and coast.

The event is also expected to deliver a £4million economic boost to the south Wales economy and add to the county’s growing tourism industry with thousands of today’s visitors likely to return to enjoy what Carmarthenshire has to offer.

Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council, Cllr Emlyn Dole, said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for Carmarthenshire to shine on a world stage. I have spent the morning not only enjoying the race but speaking to people who are hugely impressed with what Carmarthenshire can offer as a host of major sporting events. I’ve no doubt that today’s race will mean many more exciting opportunities for us to bring the world’s top athletes to compete here on our doorstep.

“This is fantastic for Carmarthenshire, our growing tourism industry, local businesses and local communities.

“I am so very proud of the welcome Carmarthenshire has given to the Tour of Britain, and I thank organisers for putting their faith and trust in us to deliver a spectacular day of racing.”

Mwy o ddigwyddiadau chwaraeon pwysig i ddod i Sir Gaerfyrddin

MAE Sir Gaerfyrddin bellach yn adnabyddus ym mhedwar ban byd oherwydd ei llwyddiant o ran cynnal a chroesawu Taith Prydain.

Cynhaliwyd Cymal Un ras fwyaf y DU yn y Sir heddiw (dydd Sul, 2 Medi 2018), gan ddenu 120 o feicwyr gorau’r byd a miloedd o wylwyr i’r strydoedd.

Roedd sêr y byd beicio gan gynnwys Geraint Thomas, enillydd Tour de France, a Chris Froome ymhlith y rheiny a gymerodd ran yn y ras, a ddechreuodd ym Mharc Gwledig Pen-bre a theithio tua’r gogledd drwy’r Sir, gan gyrraedd Llanymddyfri a pharhau i ddiwedd y Cymal yng Nghasnewydd.

Dyma’r tro cyntaf i Daith Prydain ddod i Sir Gaerfyrddin, a hwn yw’r digwyddiad chwaraeon mwyaf erioed sydd wedi’i gynnal gan Gyngor Sir Caerfyrddin.

Gan fod y digwyddiad wedi cael ei ddarlledu’n fyw ar y teledu drwy’r dydd, roedd yn gyfle arbennig i arddangos golygfeydd a chyfleusterau Sir Gaerfyrddin, sy’n berffaith ar gyfer ystod o ddigwyddiadau chwaraeon gyda’i chymysgedd o gefn gwlad ac arfordir.

Yn ogystal, disgwylir i’r digwyddiad roi hwb economaidd o £4m i economi de Cymru, ac ychwanegu at ddiwydiant twristiaeth y Sir gan y bydd miloedd o ymwelwyr yn debygol o ddychwelyd er mwyn mwynhau’r hyn sydd ar gael yn Sir Gaerfyrddin.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Emlyn Dole, Arweinydd Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin: “Mae hwn wedi bod yn gyfle gwych i Sir Gaerfyrddin serennu ar lefel fyd-eang. Rwyf wedi treulio’r bore nid yn unig yn mwynhau’r ras, ond yn siarad â phobl sydd wedi cael argraff hynod dda o’r hyn y gall Sir Gaerfyrddin ei gynnig wrth gynnal digwyddiadau chwaraeon pwysig. Rwy’n sicr y bydd y ras heddiw yn golygu y bydd llawer mwy o gyfleoedd cyffrous i ni ddod ag athletwyr gorau’r byd yma i gystadlu ar ein stepen drws.

“Mae hwn yn wych i Sir Gaerfyrddin, i’n diwydiant twristiaeth sy’n tyfu, i fusnesau lleol ac i’r cymunedau lleol.

“Rwy’n falch iawn o’r croeso y mae Sir Gaerfyrddin wedi’i roi i Daith Prydain, a hoffwn ddiolch i’r trefnwyr am ymddiried ynom i ddarparu diwrnod rhagorol o rasio.”
