Community Foundation in Wales funding grassroots projects in Carmarthenshire
A community group that puts on live music concerts for elderly, unwell and vulnerable people is one of the projects in Carmarthenshire to receive a funding boost from Community Foundation in Wales.
Community Foundation in Wales, a charity that awards grants of over £2 million each year to charities and community groups on behalf of their donors, has awarded funding to some key community projects across Carmarthenshire through the Carmarthenshire fund.
The latest round of awards will help to fund the following projects:
- Carmarthenshire Carers Information Service – awarded £940 to provide carers with support groups in Llanelli and Llandovery, holding a carers wellbeing course and putting on a Christmas lunch and a joint trip
- Chooselife UK – awarded £2,240 to provide a nutritious lunch for drug and alcohol service users and people who are homeless
- Music in Hospitals – awarded £563 to put on seven live music concerts for elderly, unwell and vulnerable people living in care settings in Ceredigion
Community Foundation in Wales has funded a number of worthwhile projects through the Carmarthenshire Fund. One initiative to previously benefit from funding from the Carmarthenshire fund is Carmarthen Youth Project’s Transitionz project.
Transitionz is a “mini- youth club” aimed at improving and raising the aspirations of disadvantaged children and young people by involving them in youth work, encouraging their participation in community projects and volunteering as well as supporting their transition to secondary school through a buddy system.
Transitionz has been running for two years and is run by youth workers and a trained group of older youth members aged 11-16.
Carmarthen Youth Project were awarded a grant of £2,000 through the Carmarthenshire Fund to support the continuation of the Transitionz project
Richard Williams, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation in Wales, said:
“Transitionz has provided a place for young people to meet and have fun, helping them to engage in a number of community activities, improving their confidence along the way. It has also offered the opportunity for the older youth members, who have an interest in working with children, to get some training and learn new skills.
With jobs in this area scarce and competition high, the opportunity to learn these skills is vital and Community Foundation in Wales is proud to be able to fund initiatives like these and offer continued support and assistance to local communities across Wales.”
