Please find below a statement from NSPCC Cymru / Wales on the sentencing of 47 year old Alistair Jones at Mold Crown Court, who had previously admitted two charges of attempting to incite a 13-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity, two counts of attempting to cause a 13-year-old girl to look at indecent images and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
An NSPCC Cymru spokesperson said: “The gateway of social media allows would-be groomers to target children all too easily, as Jones’ appalling actions show. It is vital he receives effective treatment behind bars to reduce any risk he poses on his release.
“The NSPCC is calling for far more to be done to protect children from online predators like Jones, including fining tech companies who fail to prevent grooming on their platforms while forcing social media giants to make child protection a priority.”
