New research has revealed which Welsh counties are home to the highest density of pubs per square mile.
Put together by Blundstone, a boot footwear brand with a passion for hiking and travel, this project shows us which counties across the UK have the largest number of pubs packed into the smallest space.
A direct geographic reflection of our love of drinking? Perhaps.
South Glamorgan, the winner
Needless to say that South Glamorgan came out on top with 1.7 pubs per square mile and 305 pubs in total – we can blame (or praise) Cardiff for that.
Second up was Mid Glamorgan with 1.2 pubs per square mile and 361 in total. And what do you know, West Glamorgan came in third with 1 pub per square mile and 316 in total. Bit of a theme going on hereā¦
Dyfed has the most pubs in total
You then have Gwent, Clwyd and Gwynedd in 4th, 5th and 6th place, respectively. Although the density is lower, the total number of pubs are actually higher in these counties.
The same is true for Dyfed coming in at 7th place with 584 pubs in total – the love for a cold pint clearly still strong.
Why then is Powys left so far behind?! With both the lowest number of pubs per square mile (0.1) and the lowest number of pubs in total (245), perhaps the people of Powys are simply more conservative with their tipple? (let us know if weāre wrong though…).
Wales wins silver in Blundstoneās boozy project
Wales also sits above Northern Ireland and Scotland as the country with the second most pubs per square mile, behind only England- not bad at allā¦ though itās probably to our advantage that Ireland werenāt included.
