A Carway man who was over the drink drive limit and on his way to pick up his child’s packed lunch from the local shop ended up involved in a collision with police on their way to an incident.
The Driver from Carway, Kidwelly pleaded guilty at Llanelli Law Courts today (September 20) of driving his Dacia Duster on the B4317 Trimsaran to Carway when he was over the legal drink drive alcohol limit.
Lisa Jones prosecuting explained the RTA took place on September 4 of this year. Police officers were responding to an incident when the accident took place around a sharp bend. Another vehicle who spotted the police sirens performed an emergency stop when the defendant noticed too late which resulted in the collision.
It was described as a highly unfortunate incident. A roadside breath test conducted proved positive for the presence of alcohol and the defendant was subsequently arrested as a result. At the police station a lower reading of 68 mcg within 100 ml of breath was obtained. There is one previous conviction on record which is unrelated for unlawful violence.
Steve John in mitigation told the court that his client had been out with his fiancee and had consumed a few drinks earlier but hours had passed and he felt fit to drive.
He stated that he had drank several before the accident but was en route to purchase packed lunch for his child at the local shop which was less than a mile away. The sharp bend and the other vehicle performing an emergency stop had resulted in the collision. Mr John added that his client who works in recruitment had clear remorse and was sorry for his actions. He added that the punishment would have a clear effect on his client’s career and family life.
The Driver was disqualified from driving for a total of 18 months. He must pay a fine of £500, court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £50. He was offered the drink awareness course.
