The Predator Review.
Written by West Wales Chronicle’s Adam Roberts.

Its been eight years since the last Predator film came out. Entitled back then with the name Predators, I believe I am correct in saying that everyone had high hopes going into watch it and yet found it to be a complete waste of time and money. And frankly, I agree. The whole thing felt rushed, the storyline wasn’t consistent, and the end scene had yet an obvious opening for its own sequel, but we had nothing as a result. So, the biggest question in issue was, what was the point?

This year with The Predator they really seemed to pick things up. It had a story that we could follow, and it felt consistent this time round. It really felt like they thought about what they were doing with this one and it didn’t feel like they were doing another film just to pay the electricity bill.

Boyd Holbrook

On the acting side, this film has a really great cast. In the staring roles we saw Boyd Holbrook as Quinn McKenna. A former sniper for the Army Rangers who ends up discovering the predator on a hostile retrieving mission. Under attack by the predator, he manages to swipe some of the alien tech which he sends for safe keeping to the home of his ex-wife played by Yvonne Aguilera. Unfortunately, the tech is found by his son Rory who also unfortunately has Asperger Syndrome. This little boy is played by Jacob Tremblay and I have to say that this kid can really play the part well. I really believed for a few times that Jacob really did have Asperger’s.

At the point of Rory’s discovery, the predator has been taken to a research laboratory where evolutionary biologist Dr Casey Bracket played by Olivia Munn has just been recruited by Will Traeger played by Sterling K. Brown. As Director of the government agency Stargazer, he later requires the help of Holbrook. I give the performance of these actors the highest regards and I found this sequel quite impressive, although there were a couple of scenes I found unnecessary.

There was however a lot of fun scenes from actors such as Trevante Rhodes and Keegan-Michael Key who I found to be a kind of comic relief.

I give The Predator a rating of 8/10 and I do recommend it to anyone for a fun bit of action and entertainment.
