Swansea teen sings her way to win charity talent contest 

Swansea teenager, Mckenzie Thomas, has been announced as the winner in a talent competition run by Fearless, the youth service of UK charity Crimestoppers.

Mckenzie overwhelming won the online public vote with her take on the classic ‘Don’t rain on my parade’ from the hit musical Funny Girl.

The teen competition, titled FAME by Fearless, was run by Fearless.org across South Wales during the summer holidays. Mckenzie was presented with her £250 prize package this week in front of her friends at the stage school, The Performance Factory, by Crimestoppers Wales Manager Ella Rabaiotti and local neighbourhood police Inspector Carl Morris.

Ella Rabaiotti, Wales Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, said:

“The competition was a great opportunity to engage with young people positively about Fearless through showcasing their talents but also to pass on the message that they have a voice to speak up about crime anonymously through Fearless.org. We are delighted with the response to the competition and thank everyone who supported and voted – Mckenzie is a well-deserved winner!”

The competition, supported by South Wales Police, encouraged young people to upload short videos showcasing their talents to YouTube and was part of a wider campaign to encourage young people to report crime that they may have witnessed. The Fearless website allows young people to give information about crime 100% anonymously using a secure and non-traceable online form.

Competition runners up were: pianists, Cardiff-based Dylan Watkins and Swansea’s Laura Webb.
