Match – September 28
It was Llanelli who started this game on the front foot and got their reward in the eleventh minute when a defence splitting pass found Reds striker James Loveridge, who left his defensive markers in his wake, as he sped some thirty yards towards his opponents goal.
He looked up and calmly nutmegged the Newtown goalkeeper sending the ball into the middle of the goal net. 1-0
As the half progressed the Reds were coping with any attacks from their opponents. But with thirty four minutes gone, a lack of concentration in defence allowed Newtown’s Nick Rushton to score an equaliser. 1-1
The goal seemed to spur on Newtown (nicknamed the Robins) and as the half ended it seemed that they were exerting a meaningful grip on the game.
Half Time 1-1
The second half opened as the first half had ended with most of the possession football coming from the Robins.
It was in the sixty fifth minute when Newtown’s Neil Mitchell scored the goal of the game that he unleashed a close range rocket of a volley that thundered against the underside of the Reds crossbar and burst into the back
of the net. 1-2
Two minutes later Robins defender Callum Roberts struck the Reds crossbar from a well taken free kick from twenty five yards out.
Any chance of a Reds comeback were well and truly scuppered when Anthony Finselbach was shown a straight red card in the seventy eighth minute.
With backs against the wall, it was no surprise with ten men that Reds conceded a third goal when Robins substitute Sam Phillips scored in the eighty second minute with a close range effort.
The points were secured for the visitors and the home support left disappointed after such an upbeat start.
Final score
Llanelli Town 1
Newtown 3
