The Joker 2019 Movie

With the new Joker movie drawing closer we haven’t heard a lot of information about it so far, but it’s still relatively early days, as it doesn’t release in theatres until late 2019. Here’s what we have for you so far.

Director Todd Phillips draws inspiration for this movie from Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy where Robert De Niro stars as a mentally unstable comedian who kidnaps a late-night talk-show host and persuades him to let him perform on his show. It seems that this is heading in a very similar direction except it’s in the DC Universe.

Now when I say this is in the DC Universe, I don’t mean to say that this is part of the DCEU like Suicide Squad or The Justice League. This is featured as a separate stand-alone DC movie but it’s more of a crime thriller story than anything else. However, the plot details are currently under wraps at this point.

Joaquin Phoenix

As for the cast, taking on the role of The Joker/Arthur Fleck will be Joaquin Phoenix. He’s not the traditional Joker we’ve seen in the past, as this guy will be cast as a struggling comedian who lives with his mother played by Frances Conroy.

Frances Conroy

This is pretty much similar to the story The Killing Joke which is how I was hoping that the story would originally pan out; the reason being that it’s truly amazing with regards to plot and I believe that it deserves to have it’s very own stand-alone feature, but it seems that it might not happen. Also cast is Zazie Beetz who we saw play the character Domino in Deadpool 2 and she will be playing the role of Sophie Dumond.

Brett Cullen

In the cast role we will be lucky enough to view Brett Cullen who takes on the memorable part of Thomas Wayne. This tells me that this story means it’ll be years before Batman even appears, so I’d say it’s safe to say that the Dark Knight will not appear in this movie.

Robert De Niro

Finally, for the cast we will be seeing Robert De Niro whose title is currently unnamed. The Joker is set to release in theatres September 16, 2019.

Something to look forward to!
