Morris relinquishes Director of Cricket role at Glamorgan
Hugh Morris has relinquished his position as Director of Cricket after nearly 5 years in the role to focus on his increasing duties as Chief Executive of the Club. The decision was taken at yesterdayâs Board meeting following the findings from an independent external review into the Clubâs season. An open recruitment process for his successor will begin immediately.
Morris will remain as Chief Executive at Glamorgan where he has played a key role in securing International cricket at Sophia Gardens until 2024, securing a team in the new ECB competition and reducing the countyâs long term debts.
âWith the disappointing performances on the pitch this season and the need to spread my time more evenly across the business, it has been decided to split the Chief Executive and Director of Cricket roles at the Club,â said Morris.
âNext year we have four Cricket World Cup matches at Sophia Gardens, as well as an IT20 match, followed by the ECBâs new competition in 2020 and the new international calendar.
âWe are also working with Cricket Wales on developing a strategy for cricket in Wales to grow the game across the country. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the position but this is the right time for myself and the Club to bring in someone with a fresh perspective to lead the department and bring success to Glamorgan on the field.
Further announcements from the board meeting are expected over the coming weeks.
