300 guests enjoyed live music from Joe Schmo, an auction and beer and food while pitting their music knowledge against other teams from across South Wales at the quiz – which included a sing-along lyrics round and a round of ‘classic album covers’ – while raising a brilliant £42,000 for disadvantaged children and young people supported by Action for Children.

The Principality Building Society’s team, the Miser Chiefs, scooped the platinum music quiz trophy.

Paul Thorburn, former Welsh rugby international, Douglas-Jones Mercer representative and chairman of the Never Mind the Business committee, said:

“We were delighted to hold this event at the wonderful Brangwyn Hall, it was a treat. It was also brilliant to see even more people supporting Never Mind the Business this year, having fun and raising £42,000 for Action for Children and the children and young people in our communities who need it most was fantastic.

“As a proud Swansea firm, Douglas-Jones Mercer was delighted to be the main sponsor of Never Mind the Business working with our other key sponsor, Towergate Insurance to put on this key Action for Children fundraising event. I’m grateful to everyone involved for making the event go so smoothly.”

Nina Rice, fundraiser for Action for Children in Wales, explains:

“It was great to bring Never Mind the Business back to Wales and to see even more people from Swansea businesses supporting us this year.

“Brangwyn Hall was the perfect venue for Mal Pope and Joe Schmo to strut their stuff and we are thrilled to have raised almost £42,000 for the children and young people Action for Children supports.”

How Action for Children works:

From before they are born until they are into their twenties, we help disadvantaged children across Wales and the UK. We help them through fostering or adoption – and by intervening early to stop neglect and abuse. We make life better for disabled children. We influence policy and advocate for change. Our 7,000 staff and volunteers operate over 600 services, improving the lives of 390,000 children, teenagers, parents and carers every year. We succeed by doing what’s right, doing what’s needed, and doing what works for children.
