Community Arts Centre in Pont-Tyweli, Llandysul called The Pwerdy – Powerhouse, which has been severely affected by Storm Callum flooding.
The centre provides local residents with a wide range of arts and crafts courses; from beginners drawing classes to basket weaving and up-cycling sessions. The venue has been a community hub for meetings, exhibitions and events. Until recent flooding it was also a thriving music venue, hosting regular open mike nights and alternative music gigs. The vision for The Powerhouse has been to provide creative opportunities and give everybody in the community the chance to access life-long learning and experience social inclusion.
Due to it’s riverside position, it was hit particularly hard when the Teifi burst it’s banks over the weekend. Flooding from both the rear balcony sliding doors and along the front, as water poured down the street and onto the sub-level entrance way, smashing the front windows. Volunteers have cleared the worst of the debris, and the committee is now allowing the building to dry out and assess the full extent of the damage.
