Officers investigating an incident in which a man reportedly tried to entice a schoolboy in to his car, are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The child reported being approached by a stranger in a silver car as he made his way home from school last Friday, October the 19th.

He was approached on St Johns Road, Clydach, after having cut through the car park of the veterinary clinic on High Street at approximately 3.35pm.

The man, who is described as black, in his mid-30s with short/ medium black hair and wearing a silver shirt with a T-shirt underneath, claimed to know the boy’s mother and asked the child to get in to the vehicle.

The child ran off after asking the man to describe his mother and he was unable to.

Detective Inspector Dave Peart said:

“This is a concerning incident and one we are taking very seriously. However, I would like to remind the public that such incidents are rare and they should remain vigilant but not alarmed.

“Our officers have visited a number of schools in the area to remind staff and pupils about the importance of personal safety and stranger danger, and I would urge parents to reinforce this message at home with their children.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who believes they may have information which could assist the investigation, to come forward.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact 101, quoting occurrence 1800398501.
