Llanelliā€™s MP & AM announce Christmas card competition winners

Nia Griffith MP and Lee Waters AM have announced the winners of the annual competition to design their Christmas cards. A number of high-quality entries on the theme of ā€˜Snowmanā€™ were received for this yearā€™s competition, which is sponsoredĀ by the Llanelli-based Parker Plant Hire.

After careful consideration last Friday (19th of October), the judges decided that the designs submitted by Talieah Bevan from Maes y Morfa and Oliver Davies from Swiss Valley were the winners. Framed copies of the winning designs will beĀ given to the pupils who made them and to their schools, both of which will also receive a Ā£100 prize.

The winning designs will be featured on the MPā€™s and AMā€™s Christmas cards, along with a number of runner-up entries singled out by the judges for commendation. The runners-up in the infant category are Sophia Suter (Ysgol y Felin), TheaĀ Ashford (Maes y Morfa) and Oliver Dunne (Swiss Valley), and the junior runners-up are Isla Jenkins (Ffwrnes), Freddie Corfield (Ffwrnes) and Tegan Treharne (Ysgol y Felin).

The difficult job of judging the entries was undertaken by local artist Therese James, retired Primary School Headteacher Liz Parker and Paul Carter, the House Manager at Llanelly House, where many of the pupilsā€™ designs will be displayedĀ from Saturday the 1st of December through to Christmas Day. Whilst not every picture can be there, the display at Llanelly House will feature the winning entries and a selection of the others.

Speaking about the competition, Nia Griffith MP said:

ā€œI would like to congratulate Talieah from Maes y Morfa and Oliver from Swiss Valley for winning the competition this year. Their beautiful designs will now feature on the cards thatĀ Lee Waters and I send out in the run-up to Christmas.

ā€œMany thanks to all the schools that participated and every student who submitted a design. Lee and I were very impressed by the high standard of entries, and I know the judges had a difficult time picking the winners. We are grateful toĀ the judges for volunteering their time and to George Parker for sponsoring the competition another year.ā€

Lee Waters AM added:

ā€œThe standard of entries for the competition was incredibly high this year. I would like to thank all the pupils who took part for creating such imaginative and jolly pictures. Unfortunately not every design can beĀ featured in Llanelly House, but many of the excellent pictures will be on display and I would encourage everyone to visit and celebrate the talents of our local children.ā€

The annual MP/AM Christmas card competition was open to all primary schools in the Llanelli constituency, and Ms Griffith and Mr Waters received several hundred entries from local school children.
