NEWS UPDATE – FIVE JAILED FOR SUPPLY OF HEROIN IN LLANELLI

On Thursday November the 22nd at Swansea Crown Court, the first phase of sentencing happened in respect of a protracted investigation that focused on the supply of Class A drugs, namely heroin, in the Llanelli area. Five defendants were sentenced to over 16 years in this initial phase of sentencing, and there remains 18 individuals to be dealt with through the court process over the coming weeks and months.

This follows a protracted investigation by the Dyfed-Powys Police Serious and Organised Crime Team between February and September 2018. The focus was on identifying, arresting and prosecuting those involved in sourcing, storing, preparation and supply of heroin. The investigation led to an enforcement phase which saw the arrest of 23 individuals.

These five defendants all pleaded guilty to the supply of Class A drugs, and were sentenced on Thursday November 22 as follows:

Debbie Louise WOOD, 35 years old from Llanelli – 4 years imprisonment.

Carwyn BIGNELL, 37 years old from Llanelli – 40 months imprisimprisonment (with 2 months.concurrent for possession of a lock knife).

Stacey CHARLES, 27 years old from Llanelli – 28 months imprisonment.

James MOCHAN, 48 years old from Llanelli – 4 years imprisonment.

Jeremy PEGLER, 41 years old from Llanelli – 40 months imprisonment (to be run consecutive to his existing sentence for burglary earlier this year).

His Honour Judge Keith Thomas sentencing stated that the courts will deal with drug supply offences robustly, and we hope that this sends a clear message to anyone involved in the supply of drugs that it won’t be tolerated, and that you will be brought to justice for the harm caused to individuals, families and communities.
