The Tesco Bags of Help token scheme has raised £2,000 for Action for Children’s Hawthorn Project in Haverfordwest that supports children and young people with complex disabilities and their families in Pembrokeshire.
This key project provides key workers who support families within this service acts as a single point of contact and enables the child/young person and their family to have easy access to information, support and services to meet their needs.
The project also operates a family and child activity programme during the school holidays which enable families to spend quality time together with the support of Hawthorn project staff as well as a parenting course to support families who may be struggling to manage their child’s behaviour and understand their child’s diagnosis.
Charlotte Phillips, service coordinator for the Hawthorn Project, said: ‘We are delighted to receive this money from the Tesco Bags of Help token scheme as the project is a great source of emotional support, care and independent advice to those most in need. Often many of our families struggle to go on outings and trips that other families wouldn’t think twice about because of the additional challenges their child’s disability brings, they simply may not be able to manage on their own, or they may have other children they need to look after as well.
‘This money will help us hugely as we are raising funds for activities and family events that our staff can go on with our families to provide emotional and physical, making it possible for our families to go on days out during the school holidays that may otherwise not have been possible.’
Nina Rice, Action for Children’s senior fundraiser in Wales, added: ‘The Tesco Bags of Help token scheme is a fantastic way to raise money for projects that provide crucial care and support in our local communities. We are so pleased that the public responded so generously to the Hawthorn Project as they do a brilliant job in supporting children, young people and their families who face enormous challenges on a daily basis. Thank you to everyone who supported this excellent Tesco community scheme.’
