Marc Tierney, Labourâs Parliamentary Candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, has pledged his support for local small enterprises in advance of Small Business Saturday on December 1st.
The Small Business Saturday Campaign bus visited West Wales recently on its tour of the United Kingdom, offering advice and support to local businesses. Marc took the opportunity to meet with small business owners in Carmarthen and Pembroke Dock to hear of their everyday experiences in the current economic climate.
Marc Tierney said: âI had the privilege of meeting some local business owners ahead of small business Saturday, as I strongly believe small businesses are the lifeblood of small towns like Pembroke Dock.
âOn Wednesday, I spoke with Michael OâDwyer of Cwtch Coffee in Pembroke Dock about the challenges facing small businesses â including the concern over decreased footfall from the port if weâre faced with a No-Deal Brexit. Michaelâs business is successful, helped by targeted support from the Welsh Labour Government, where fewer than half of small businesses pay any business rates at all.â
To keep our economy going through times of economic uncertainly, Marc Tierney is encouraging people to think local when shopping this Christmas, he said: âResearch has shown that for every ÂŁ1 spent in a small business, 63p stays in the local economy. Our local high streets are filled with small, independent businesses, choosing to spend in each of those shops puts more money back into the Pembrokeshire economy. As Cwtch Coffee uses meat from the local butcher, eggs from Narberth, and bakes its own bread every morning, thatâs money well spent for the benefit of the local community.â
