CHRISTMAS CRISIS AS WELSH RESIDENTS CAN’T FIT THEIR TURKEY IN THE FRIDGE

  • 66% of Christmas cooks in Welsh can’t fit their turkey in their fridge
  • Welsh residents panic as fridge space stops them from buying Christmas food
  • This is resulting in those last-minute supermarket shops to buy more food to fit in vacated space

Two thirds of Welsh residents are panicking as they realise they can’t fit their Christmas turkey in their fridge.

The study, conducted in the last 48 hours by AO.com, found that half of Welsh residents can’t fit their Christmas shopping in the fridge, despite 52% having two fridge freezers in their home.

A turkey, that will feed 8-10 people, measures, on average, 14×10 inches and the average height of a fridge shelf is 7 inches.

The size of their fridge freezer is having an impact on how they shop for their Christmas dinner. A third (33%) stated that the lack of space is preventing them from buying the amount of Christmas food they would ideally like to, resulting in those infamous last-minute supermarket shops to cram in food where space has appeared.

The crisis, that is affecting half of the UK population this festive season, has seen a whopping 53% of people put a fridge or freezer on their Christmas wish list, making them one of, if not, the most sought after gifts this Christmas.

David Lawson, managing director of AO.com, said: “We noticed that searches for fridges and freezers had rocketed in recent weeks and we wanted to dig a little deeper to find out why. Our research has revealed that there seems to be a mini crisis happening as Christmas cooks realise their turkey won’t fit in their fridge.

“At AO.com we have a wide range of fridge freezers available but judging from the results of the study it seems most people will need to be looking at a American fridge freezer to cope with the amount of Christmas food they are planning on buying.”

Other findings from the study revealed that 25% of Welsh residents had put a new washing machine on their Christmas list with 20% asking for a tumble dryer.

When asked about what they use their second fridge freezer for, 19% stated that they use them for drinks storage and 53% used it solely for sweet and savoury frozen food. The garage (35%) is where most keep their second fridge freezer, closely followed by the kitchen (30%) and a utility room (23%).

Customers can order from AO.com and still have their fridge freezer delivered in time for Christmas, visit https://ao.com/cooling to view the range. In addition, AO.com will take your old fridge away to be sustainably recycled.
