Swansea families supported by Action for Children have enjoyed some festive fun thanks to money raised by the Never Mind the Business fundraiser in October.
Families from the Swansea SAIL project were treated to a trip to Winter Wonderland on the Gower to feed the Reindeers and enjoyed a slap-up Christmas lunch at the Poundffald Inn in Three Crosses.
Action for Children brought its Never Mind the Business quiz and live music event to Wales and Swansea’s historic Brangwyn Hall. Hosted by BBC Wales’ Mal Pope, 300 guests enjoyed live music from Joe Schmo, an auction and beer and food while pitting their music knowledge against other teams from across South Wales at the quiz and raised £42,000 for disadvantaged children and young people.
Paul Thorburn, former Welsh rugby international, Douglas-Jones Mercer representative and chairman of the Never Mind the Business committee, said: ‘We had a wonderful night in October and raised over £42,000 so it’s brilliant to see the money already helping the families Action for Children supports. Christmas is a very special time for families, so it gives us tremendous pleasure to be help these families get to Winter Wonderland and kick off Christmas in style.’
Swansea SAIL is a service that offers one-to-one and group support for young parents and parents-to-be aged 14 to 25 years old living in the city. The project tailors an approach that suits individual needs including support from a life coach or a systemic psychotherapist, informal advocacy, individual or couples therapy, preparing for court and dealing with having a child in foster care or adopted.
The service also helps our young parents or parents-to-be with wellbeing, emotional resilience, isolation, self-esteem and confidence to help them become the best parents they can be.
Nina Rice, senior fundraiser for Action for Children in Wales, said: ‘The families had a great time at Winter Wonderland and were delighted to follow it up with lunch at the Poundffald Inn. Christmas can be a very challenging time for the families we support so it means the world to them to be able to enjoy a day out at Christmas they wouldn’t ordinarily be able to do. Never Mind the Business is a fantastic fundraiser and it really does a make a huge difference to the families in our communities who need it most.’
Never Mind the Business Swansea 2019 will take place on Friday 18th October at the Brangwyn Hall, tables can be reserved by contacting Nina Rice on 02920 347060 or email nina.rice@actionforchildren.org.uk
