In the week leading up to Christmas, donations collected by Fforwm Llanelli Forum were handed over to the Antioch Lifeshare Food and Clothes Bank in Copperworks Road.

In receiving these on behalf of the food bank, Bethany Taylor said “Every donation we receive makes such a difference in the lives of vulnerable local families, especially as times get harder”.

Mary Roll, who organised the collection, added: “It saddens me deeply to witness the destitution of struggling local families, especially at a time when the central government is squandering scarce public resources on schemes of unprecedented folly”.

Sean Rees, Town Councillor for Glanymor Ward where the food bank is located, was present at the handover and remarked on the “great response which just goes to show the level of generosity that exists within the Llanelli community”. He further stated: “While it’s terrible that foodbanks should exist, we are indebted to the volunteers who operate them for the caring role they provide to the most vulnerable. Austerity isn’t working, it has increased inequality and penalised those with the least.”
