NEWS UPDATE ON NEATH GAS EXPLOSION
Police are currently at the scene of an explosion which occurred in a small block of flats in Neath at approximately 8.30pm today (the 14th of January, 2019).
The Waun Las block of approximately four flats in Waunceirch has been evacuated due to the extensive damage caused to the building.
All occupants are accounted for and arrangements have been made to house them overnight until the building is deemed safe enough for their return.
One woman has been admitted to Morriston Hospital with burn injuries which are not life threatening.
A joint investigation is underway between South Wales Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the incident.

Steve Williams, Wales & West Utilities Gas Emergency Service Manager for Neath said:
“We were alerted to a suspected gas explosion at a flat in the Brwynen Las area of Neath this evening (the 14th of January) and immediately sent a team of engineers to the scene.
“The gas supply to the affected property has been isolated. We are supporting the emergency services and working with them to investigate the cause of the explosion.”
